Innovators congregate at The Economic Times Global Innovation Congress (GIC) 2019

The Economic Times Global Innovation Congress (GIC) 2019, held at the Westin, Mumbai, began with a powerful address by Debabrat Mishra, Partner, Deloitte. The day highlighted innovations being the next big thing in the Manufacturing industry. The power packed sessions brought up first-hand innovations that the industry is adopting to bring the best possible technical support to the market

The leaders in attendance discussed how to drive Competitive Advantage for Supply Chains through AI, IoT, Advanced Analytics & Blockchain. Manoj Kothari, Head Supply Chain, Godrej Consumer Products USA, Africa & Middle East said, “ In supply chain and Manufacturing just see the lenses from what you are measuring and what you are not, because until and unless you don’t measure you can’t monitor, and if you can’t monitor you can’t manage.”

Dr. Ravi Prakash Mathur, Senior Director - Head of Logistics and Supply Chain Excellence, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories said, “Technology is just an enabler, it’s not really going to solve your problem and it is not going to give you profit. It is going to enable you to do what you want to do in a different way and in a smarter way.”

Shridhar Kamath, Partner, Deloitte opined, “Even after all these years of advancements we have made in supply chains, the top 3 challenges that still exists for supply chain managers are visibility, speed, and quality.”

While discussing Smart Manufacturing: Big Investment with Big Impacts and Rapid Returns Jagdish Ramaswamy, Chief Digital Officer, Hindalco opined that,We are still far away from people putting big investments and big impacts, especially from the digital point of view we are far away. So I must accept here from Hindalco perspective or even in Aditya Birla group perspective that we are long way off from reaching the target. Having said that I think we have taken a good beginning.”

Deepak Lamba, President, Times Strategic Solutions, offered his thoughts as well, saying, “Technology is changing the way businesses are functioning in the world, with Innovation being the key driver for businesses to grow exponentially. Thus, in order to be globally competitive in the coming years, it is imperative that Indian manufacturing companies develop and integrate technology that are driving innovation by commercialising innovative ideas into sustainable businesses to leveraging new business models to drive competitive and profitable growth.
